Gwen Samuels

There have been times when I have been driven to create to better understand my feelings. My art serves me as a means of expression for uncomfortable emotions and memories that disrupt my balance.
The materials I work with are familiar and I work with them in unexpected ways. Photographs record space and time, Transparency interacts with place creating shadows, Thread and Wire are connectors building structure while working together to create the form.
My love of the hand made drives the process with a need to stitch, mend, reformat patterns in repetition and piece it all together to be whole.
I welcome the opportunity to find solutions for furthering the materials possibilities by making new connections thru understanding and relationships.

Gwen Samuels has a Bachelor's Degree in Art from Syracuse University
