Dawn Fincham Studied a BA Fine Art degree at Southampton Institute 1994-1997. Afterwards she followed the traditional fine art route of submitting her work to galleries for exhibition. During that time she was looking for another resource to express her art when she was given a computer as a gift. Dawn went on and taught herself the relevant programs at the time and got a job as a graphic designer, she has since worked in the industry for 20 years.  Dawn has divided her efforts between her art and graphic design work over this period developing her skills and cultivating her links with clients.  Dawn morphs hand drawn images with digital graphics and photographs to illustrate her interpretation of the world around us. The work inspires the viewer to look and look again by building narrative through layers and encourages them to gain a different perspective each time. The use of strong characters and compact surreal landscapes populate Dawn’s artwork alongside vivid colour palettes to obscure the work’s hidden meanings. Dawn generally starts with the characters and has a rough idea of direction, but on most occasions it develops fluidly. Dawn’s artwork is created in many different ways: from hand drawn, old magazine and book images to stock and personal photos scanned in and digitally worked into. She uses layering techniques to create compositions and scenes. Dawn gets the art printed onto canvas and directly works into them, drawing over images, adding paint, using different mediums, ink, glitter - whatever she thinks will work to get the desired image she’s after.
