Sophie Agafonova

About the Artist

Sophie Agafonova

United States

Sophie Agafonova is a Ukrainian-born contemporary textile artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Working with hand embroidery, punch needle, and layered fibers, she creates tactile abstract compositions that explore the relationship between form, tension, vulnerability, and resilience.

Her practice exists at the intersection of textile art, abstraction, and sculptural expression. Through subtle variations in texture, rhythm, and density, Agafonova transforms traditional textile techniques into a contemporary visual language.

Her ongoing series, "The Resilience of Form", examines the delicate balance between expansion and compression, strength and fragility. Each piece is developed through an intuitive, labor-intensive process, allowing material and form to evolve in dialogue.

Agafonova's works have been exhibited in the United States and represented by Tacit Collective in Canada, with pieces acquired for private and corporate collections.
