Every morning, I would cautiously approach my body, unsure of what to say. It felt like a stranger to me, someone I couldn't quite trust. Years of body shaming had taken root in my mind since I was just 12 years old, lured in by an alluring Calvin Klein ad featuring Brooke Shields, urging me to constantly battle against my own body for social acceptance. My daily routine revolved around strict weigh-ins, meticulous tracking of food intake, and self-imposed restrictions that often resulted in starvation. Even among friends and family, I hid my secretive rituals of weighing every morsel of food before consumption. For more than three decades, my body has been on a never-ending cycle of diets, constantly striving for the impossible standard of being "100 pounds," or as I would refer to it on better days, "invisibility" - because in our society, skinny is equated with success and desirability. But now, as I pour my thoughts onto paper through sketches, code, and symbols while journaling, I am actively healing from a lifetime of self-harm and mistreatment towards my own body. This collection of special edition pieces are masterfully printed and pressed onto Aluminum, creating a truly unique work of art that is signed by the artist herself. With each purchase, a portion will be donated to support one of two important nonprofit organizations: National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) and YWCA USA. My intention is to heal myself one step at a time - and in turn, inspire others to do the same through the power of art and open conversation.
