About The Artwork

In today's post-Covic-19 society, it seems that a new world order seeks to establish itself among us, contrasting old values versus innovative ideals. At this crossroads, the character with a backpack in hand, covered with thoughts in the blue of his shirt, walks within this urban context that concentrates political, civil, financial, cultural, religious powers, and where he has a green light on his being to take the worldviews and direct them to a path that has its opposite: left or right. In social media and news we heard about progressivism, conspiracy, colonialism, war refugees, new normality, data protection, global warming, vaccination, among others, creating in this character resistance or surrender against the social and political ideals that he sympathizes or not. He looks for signs to take a path, an ideological, philosophical position that sustains and defines his life. Where to direct your thoughts with your actions with the fear of falling into the politically incorrect or vice versa? Morality vs. free will? Institutionalized social values as opposed to the new ones, Will there be consequences in new implementations? West vs. East? Capitalism vs. socialism? Report or be an accomplice? Questions that are not easy to digest and navigate in a world that begins to walk at dawn before you wake up. I am Romulo Martinez, a Venezuelan artist based in Dallas - Fort worth. My work is characterized by the symbolic use of color and human representations accompanied by everyday objects and natural elements within contexts of a humanistic, social and introspective nature, with touches of everyday life, playfulness and the picturesque. It is also distinguished by the application of various techniques and media such as drawing, painting, graphic arts, collage and assemblage to represent his visual proposals. I am a mixed media visual artist who develops the work between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, such as interventions and assemblies in the exhibition space through the use of fabrics, recycled objects and assemblage, always with painting present in any of its modalities. I have several academic awards and artistic recognitions, and 12 solo exhibitions in leading museums, cultural institutions and private galleries, including the most recent Reflejos held at Daisha Board Gallery – Dallas in May 2022, an exhibition in which I approached from the different internal feelings in conflict or doubt a situation of opposite signs or alternatives when making a life decision. Situations represented in which we have all been and potentially will live again, within other contexts, product of the constant organicity of daily life. I have also participated in more than 70 collective exhibitions, festivals and art salons, and his works have been exhibited in different cities of Venezuela individually or collectively, such as Maracaibo, Caracas, Valencia, Maracay, Barcelona, Trujillo and Ciudad Bolívar, and internationally in Bogotá-Colombia, Valencia-Spain, Aruba, City of Singapore-Singapore, Lima-Peru, and within the United States in Miami, Dallas, Frisco, Coppell, Denton, Plano and Fort Worth. As a person and artist, I have always had a strong interest in humanistic, social and introspective themes, which lead me to capture in my work, with documentary conceptions, both my own and others emotions with the intention that viewers can see themselves reflected in the work from the sensitivity and make them participants of the stories or dialogues represented, or, on the contrary let them nourish and give the work a new conceptual and narrative content.
