‘Les Affinités Electives II’ shows a couple holding each other by the back in an embrace that is at once distant and intimate, where we sense that the deconstructed elements of one body could be grafted onto the other. The title is a reference to a novel by Goethe, in which the writer attempts to lay the scientific foundations explaining human relationships. This work is part of a series of paintings devoted to transhumanism, a philosophy and project whose aim is to augment the human being and turn him or her into a kind of ultra-sophisticated machine that can be improved and repaired ad infinitum. The human figure tends to disappear behind technology, with every organ and every part of the body becoming like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle that can be recombined ad infinitum. This mixed-media artwork on canvas combines photography, digital composition and acrylic paint (glazes and raised squares). It is a unique piece. It is framed in black wood (total dimensions: approx. 65 x 80 x 3.5 cm).

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 80 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
