Coming home usually late in the evening from my job in the city, and bringing with me obsolete circuit boards from work, they became my canvas. The dark urban landscape was what I witnessed, so I began painting them and re-examined landscape by using paint and re-soldering the circuits to recreate the lights of the city! I started showing them back then and imagined I was one of the few lights on, late at night, getting ready for the next show! To me, the circuit board was the perfect contemporary canvas.

Peter McFarlane is an award winning artist, based on Salt Spring Island, whose work is in public and private collections nationally and internationally. Over his career he has worked in a wide variety of mediums particularly in the re-purposing of used objects. What connects all of his work is the re-contextualizing of obsolete everyday objects to create personal philosophies which he hopes will resonate with the viewer on a visceral and/or intellectual level and open up the possibility of a new conceptual experience. He believes waste is just a lack of imagination. He relies on long hours, landfill, personal experience, history, metal recycling and serendipity to make his art. Nationality is Canadian
