Artist Statement — Reinaldo Ortega Sardiñas “As the transgressor of contemporary pop surrealism, I create work that subverts the codes of art and popular culture. Through a vibrant visual language rooted in Pop Art, I appropriate iconic references to dismantle, decontextualize, and return them to the present as an unsettling reflection of our reality. I deliberately disregard any ideological or cultural legacy of the past, as my intention is not to pay homage, but to question, provoke, and rewrite its meanings. I use collage as a starting point—not only as a visual technique, but as a declaration of rupture. In that initial pause, an aesthetic emerges from unexpected combinations that, without adhering to any established order, shapes a spontaneous, irreverent, and deeply contemporary visual language. My work disrupts symbols, dismantles the sacred, and transforms the familiar into an object of reflection, irony, or contradiction. I do not seek answers; I generate friction. In the clash between the iconic and the absurd, the revered and the banal, a distorted mirror of our time emerges.”
