Passion Flower, genus passifloraceae, grows almost all over the world. It grows wild here, in Washington Parish, Louisiana. I am delighted when I find it blooming and fruiting on a tangled vine. The name "passion" refers to the passion of Christ in Christian mythology. The flower is complicated. I had to study the multiple layered parts in order to create these pictures. It is not like a simple daisy that can be painted with ten quick brushstrokes. I enjoyed learning about the unusual parts and creating these pictures. Passion flower is a favorite of pollinators, bees and hummingbirds. Seeing hummingbirds flying around and sipping on the flowers makes my day. The leaves and roots have a long history of medicinal usage for anxiety and sleep. It makes a delicious fruit.

I live in the deep country of Washington Parish Louisiana where I have a beautiful studio. Our property is on a creek and we have some land on a hill. Nature is a jungle jumble here, sooo beautiful. It satisfies my deep need to commune with Mother Earth. As a child I grew up as an Air Force brat, moving about and experiencing diverse cultures. " I've been everywhere, Man." (Willie Nelson) "Daddy always kept moving so she did too." (Neil Young) North, south, east and west. Paris, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Central America. Where ever I have been I have savored the various local arts. When I was six years old the Air Force moved us to Japan. You might call it culture shock, my young mind expanded when I experienced art and culture so different from the USA. I paint or photoshop almost everyday and have done so for many decades. Nature and creating art are necessary for my peace of mind. Art is a path to explore my own mind and to connect with others on a deep level. I follow my muse, choosing from a multitude of different byways that beacon to me. Maybe you will see where my imagination flows. Maybe our minds will meet. I garden organic veggies and flowers. This is creative and at my age I need the motivation of gardening exercise to keep my joints oiled. I am married to a wonderful man, I am a Mom and Grandmother, and Great Aunt. We have loving get togethers for holidays.
