Graphic design was my passion, experimenting new methods and adapting with technology was always something I loved. The Lalit Kala Academy Research grant in the field of Print-making for the year 1984-85, helped me come out from traditional graphic methods and start experimenting with new techniques. The theme with which I started experimenting then was "Architectural Construction Series". I did several etchings on metal plates on the same subject with emphasis on implementation of new techniques rather than true forms. Vagaries of life over two decades made me meander in the field of art towards ink drawings which helped me manage my emotional and physical challenges. During my recent visit to the Jewish Museum at Berlin, I got inspired by architect Daniel Libeskind and the dormant graphic designer in me against burst out with renewed energy and kick started another journey into the architectural experiments with geometry. This series is a “history of volume”; a personal history, volume, evocative or physical is a constructed phenomenon where the calligraphy in my mind chooses to reduce the fine filigree of nature into the mathematics of geometry and compress and capture it into sizes of my choice. The excitement I drew while creating my works, stems from the fact that an Ariel view of a single plane of layers cut by me digitally, synergising with light, making my work automatically dynamic, through their casting of impossible shadows transcended static form. The planned and imagined sequence of cut Steps of the planes created by me, conjure an illusion with light where these sequences move and merge into illogical spaces rendered so, just as our eyes travel.
