ROOM WITH A VIEW Artwork

This Square Mixed Media Artwork on canvas is about a girl who lives in a big expensive penthouse and has everything her heart desires. Except boyfriends and girlfriends. She is protected from the outdoors. She wants to go outside and play, but instead has to use binoculars to see what's going on outside through the big windows. What she sees is a colorful attractive outside world that she would like to be a part of. The inspiration for this artwork is the fact that many children nowadays play more indoors than outside. Not only because they prefer to be busy with their phones and games, but also because the outside world has become less safe for children. The inspiration for this technique is the torn posters and peeling paint on old city walls. For many people a sign of neglect and decay, but for me a source of inspiration. I try to copy these old walls with posters and posters with my mixed media technique. It is almost always the basis for my artworks. Due to the many layers that I apply with this mixed media / collage technique, a lot of structure is created and many small details can be seen in the artwork.
