ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Self Inferno: How dark is your Dark Side? - What is next to ecstasy? Pain. What is next to Pain? Nothingness. What is next to Nothingness? Hell… - I have need of angels. Enough hell has swallowed me for too many years. But finally understand this — I have burned up one hundred thousand human lives already, from the strength of my pain… The alternative to tragedy, or at least the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all dangers and perturbations of love …is Hell. - but I stopped fighting my inner demons, we’re on the same page now. -------- The future is digital. My artwork presents a story of the future and the past: my future and my past. I express the desire to hide and be seen, simultaneously, and the hesitations to treasure true beauty and strength while exploring the sui generis nature of individuality. I am my own muse. My thoughts and truths inspire me and express the universal struggle of identity and mental soundness – a merging of inner worlds with the textures of reality. My works show my facial features interwoven with patterns that reflect my powerful heritage and African culture representing a significant slice of my being. In my scout for mental stability, I create. The purpose is to create art in order to externalize, maintain control over and process my feelings and thoughts. I have a shadowy story within me; a vague narrative lying dormant beneath the trap door of my consciousness. The most effective way for me to investigate my internal feelings and reactions is self-exploration through artistic matters. I use my personal and impassioned artwork to bring me closer to finding out about my sense of self, my emotions, thoughts, and feelings associated. The second purpose is to educate others and attempt to cultivate empathy, regarding the difficult mental challenges we face and endure. In my pieces, I discuss the functionality of the mind as it struggles to persevere and make sense of the reality the body is forced to live in mimicking patterns of the mind, I use patterns of fabrics due to a strong liking for fashion emphasized as an art form. Through the artwork I create, my visual vocabulary and aesthetic, I attempt to break the negative connotations surrounding the subject of mental stability and allow for one to explore the double-edged infinitude of one’s self.
