Tori had a Phd in Astronomy and an MA in Art History. Her wealthy parents owned a collection of Impressionists and Post Impressionists that would rival most museums. She loved to remind Togo that she would inherit all that someday. It seemed to him that she needed that inevitability to lure him further into their short relationship. As if, she and her own accomplishments in life weren't enough for him. Whenever he'd try to convince her that he didn't need such inducements, that she, alone, was quite enough for him... well, she couldn't accept that. Arguments led to all out violence and Togo could read the writing on the wall. Tori was not in a good state of mind and whatever problems had led to her poor self esteem, he was not going to cure them. Nor would he serve as the recipient of her self-hatred. He said goodbye and headed back to France. Months later, a mutual friend informed Togo that Tori had suffered a nervous breakdown and was checked into an expensive private hospital. He did call the hospital, but, was told that only family members were allowed to visit. He was also told that Tori was in no condition to even carry on a phone conversation. A year later, her parents' entire Art collection was auctioned off at Sotheby's New York. It seems that her Mom and Dad had been embezzling millions from his business and was in a mountain of debt, as well as, criminal charges. So, while the parents headed to prison, the Monets, Renoirs and Bonnards headed to the auction block. Togo might have been able to read the writing on the wall in Tori's case, but, he hadn't seen all that coming. He had wondered what damage her parents' scandal might have done to their daughter's fragile sanity. Just recently, Togo learned that Tori's mind had never fully recovered back then and, since the family's money was gone and both parents as well...the doctors sent her to the notorious Pilgrim State Mental Hospital on Long Island where she later died at the age of 32. Yes, the young couple had only known each other for a few weeks, but, through the years, could Togo have done something to help the girl in some way? That question still preys on his thoughts to this day. He recently reworked this portrait of Tori at the beach in remembrance of her. This Fine Art Print On Canvas Is Ready To Hang! The Black And White Borders Are A Part Of The Picture Itself...The Painted Black Edges Wrap Around To Include The 2" Deep Sides. (Of Course, If You Wish To Frame The Picture, No Problem!)
