I studied 20th Century Theatre and fell in love with the world of Antonin Artaud and many of the surrealists of the time. Often i would paint sets and make collage paintings of the world of the play. Growing up in North Yorkshire and now The Pennines I find my paintings are a little bit wild and a little bit surreal. I'm interested in the supernatural aspects of life and its interaction with the physical world, what it is to be human. Some of my work is emotionally driven by power and conflict, freedom and social change as well as dreams, isolation and love. After years in the theatre, there is also an element of an actor preparing. I use acrylic and canvas and sometimes masonite.
