About The Artwork

This image is part of a series of artworks that give recognition to the pioneers and the history of aviation. The painting is a celebration of this aircraft and includes many images of the various models of the Spitfire as well as battle maps, schematics in-flight scenes, gun camera footage and pilots scrambling for their aircraft all combined with a contemporary style and vibrant colors. The "Easter Egg" in this painting is a "watcher" standing on top of a building with St. Paul's Cathedral during the Blitz in the background. I love to paint subjects of history, aviation and technology in a contemporary manner! The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II. Many variants of the Spitfire were built, from the Mk 1 to the Rolls-Royce Griffon-engined Mk 24 using several wing configurations and guns. It was the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war. The Spitfire remains popular among enthusiasts; around 70 remain airworthy, and many more are static exhibits in aviation museums throughout the world. The Spitfire was designed as a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft by R. J. Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works, which operated as a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrong from 1928. Mitchell developed the Spitfire's distinctive elliptical wing with innovative sunken rivets (designed by Beverley Shenstone) to have the thinnest possible cross-section, achieving a potential top speed greater than that of several contemporary fighter aircraft, including the Hawker Hurricane. Mitchell continued to refine the design until his death in 1937, whereupon his colleague Joseph Smith took over as chief designer, overseeing the Spitfire's development through many variants.ch were a close match for them. I hope you enjoy! More to come! Frank

Martin’s appreciation of industry was bred during and after his college years. His minor in photography as well as a variety of mentors in his early years ignited his appreciation for design, art and industry. His architectural and engineering training exposed him to various industrial locations and settings. One of the most formative experiences was being exposed to the world of industrial photography. While the photographers were focusing on capturing the processes, Martin saw the beauty in the colors and forms being captured. Martin eventually went on to open a graphic arts and printing company and while there developed and extended his techniques. Over the years, the range of projects and clients grew. Martin saw great opportunity to bring artistry to areas of industry and business that heretofore had not been translated into art. The current focus on cities, aviation and financial related artworks has struck a chord with the industry. The need for artwork that was more creatively focused has been gaining great popularity. The colors and textures as well as technical and historical accuracy have led Martin to some remarkable venues and outstanding projects with individual and corporate clients worldwide.
