About The Artwork

48 x 36 x 3. 4 layers of plaster + concrete + sand + crystal quartz grounds + arizona rock pigment (glen canyon) on canvas housed in a handcrafted, natural maple wood frame. she is detailed with a piece of drift wood we found at Sullivan’s island, that I decorated delicately with black yarn. eternally fascinated with the diverseness of different textures and materials harmoniously united together like they were aligned to cohabitate. - for those who walked before her, who lead her to finally find solace by changing the way she viewed loneliness. confronting that feeling of being completely lost when alone, stemming from running from self. she didn’t feel alone, now knowing this feeling wasn’t uniquely tattooed to her. those who shared the most intimate intrusive chatter, and invasive thoughts, those who debated with her, confronting her largest fear of being imprisoned within her mind forever. then taught her how to quiet it. those who felt deeply reassured in the new found love they grew for themselves, so much love it overflowed, sharing it with her. those who shared their darkest moments, comforting her with the knowledge they eventually found the light. those who knew it was the right decision to walk away, walked through grief and made it to the other side to tell her it’s worth the pain. those who fought for woman they haven’t met. those who drew a roadmap for her incase her battery started to die. those who looked at their pain as a reference letter for a job taking some of the weight of the unknown, off her shoulders. those who proved healing can be done. those who broke silence to help her find her strength. taylor robinson 2022.

Taylor (b.1994) and Connor Robinson (b.1992) are artists creating sculptural mixed media artwork using the moniker visceral home. Their works interpret the human psyche — for trauma and healing, the passage of time, and the relationship between humans and the natural world. Over the few years, they’ve honed in on a practice where the married partners collaborate: Connor creates handmade frames and surfaces on which Taylor paints abstract images. Their art is a kinship of two individual processes and personal meditative techniques that ultimately combine to achieve one thoughtfully balanced vision. The complexities of coping with cPTSD and substance use disorder are threaded throughout their works, revealing a timeline of visceral indentations of the emotional journey of healing. They create artwork to cope with the fear of uncertainty. From these monumental moments, a catalog of collections was born, channeling and transforming various emotions into something useful. With time, they let go of situations and relationships that held them hostage, releasing and transmuting that pain as a new creative avenue toward feeling understood, relieved, and valuable. An abstract expression of the heavy moments that would drown them if there was no cup to pour in. A celebration of the moments of joy and triumph. Their art is a tactile alternative to self-destruction. It is self-preservation. Pouring themselves into creating something that can translate that emotion into a tangible experience that can be visualized and felt viscerally is what they dream of as the ultimate solution to the condition of being human.
