About The Artwork

"Twister" is one of the pieces in the Ephemeral series. Very often when I am painting I know that there are parts of my artwork that I must sacrifice for the sake of the composition of the painting as a whole. Before continuing to paint I take photos of the interesting parts that were ephemeral then but that I have decided to reconvert into creating something different and completely new to translate it into something lasting now. This self-portrait, through the use of these recovered fragments of my stroke, could represent the internal world of my thoughts on that particular day when I was working on a painting that become a different version of my self. artist statement “I explore the essence of ART: I am intrigued by the motifs of the works that endure over time, and those that fall into oblivion. I live art as a timeless conversation where not everything is said, where the essential is precisely the unspoken. There are some things in life that are just too hard to put into words. They're so deep and meaningful that they go beyond what language can express. And it's exactly those things, the unsaid, the little shared moments that draw you in and make you a part of the art. When you experience a piece of art, it's like this secret language between you and the artist. You become a vital player, an enthusiastic collaborator in the whole artistic experience. And that's the kind of art that sticks around. That's the kind of art I strive to create in every single piece I make. This conversation we could be having right now, you in front of an artwork, it's like magic. It breathes life into the artwork, making it a forever item. With every interaction, with every different person who engages with it, the art is reborn and finished all over again. It's a beautiful dance between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer, each bringing their own unique touch to the mix. That is what I finally intend when I create my art: I want you to be an active part of my living work. BIO Begoña Lafuente is a versatile artist in the realms of painting, graphic design, and multimedia. Her artistic career was initially grounded in graphic design, which she honed in Madrid during the early 1990s. Begoña skillfully weaves her classical artistic education, holding a degree in Fine Arts, with her commitment to staying at the forefront of evolving art forms. In 2009, she embarked on a new chapter in the Netherlands, where she connected with local and international artists from diverse disciplines. This cross-cultural experience became an integral part of her art, merging seamlessly with the rich tradition of the Spanish school. Begoña's creative palette encompasses an array of techniques, including painting, collage, drawing, photography, scans, and monoprints. Her work consistently features the human face as a symbol of humanity. Her semi-abstract portraits blur the boundaries between the familiar and the abstract, capturing the essence of individuals in elegant simplicity, transcending mere photographic likeness. By amalgamating the recognizable with the abstract, her creations generate emotional and visual tension.
