About The Artwork

The piece of cardboard this painting is on was sitting on my studio table for a long time as a kind of notepad. You can see the bottom exposed area where I had written, tested colors, etc. I loved that small random area of scribbles. The cardboard was first coated on both sides with an acrylic medium which protects the work. I used acrylic paints, acrylic paint pen, collage, wax crayon and graphite. The finished painting is also protected with a coating of acrylic varnish which brings out the saturation and texture. This piece would look wonderful in a floater frame or floating behind glass in more of a shadowbox frame.

Linda O’Neill, originally from Northern California, is an abstract painter based in Boulder, Colorado. She loves living near the mountains where she gains creative inspiration from the landscape on early morning walks with her husband and Belgian Malinois. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Dominican University in San Rafael, California. It was there that she developed a passion for abstract expressionism which led her to further develop her talent as an abstract painter. Her many exhibitions in museums, galleries and international art fairs have included: Littleton Museum of Art, Littleton, Colorado; Alexandria Museum of Art, Alexandria, Louisiana; Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, Augusta, Georgia; and Stephen F. Austin University in Texas; among others. She has received many awards including Best of Show: Second Place for her painting “Ordinary Limits” in an exhibition “Destination” presented at the Littleton Museum, Littleton, CO. She received an Award of Excellence in “The Healing Power of Art 2020” exhibition curated by Renee Phillips, Director of Manhattan Arts International, New York, New York, “for her originality, technical prowess, and cohesive creative vision that reflects depth, fluidity and an optimistic spirit.” Linda and her art have been featured in numerous art publications, directories, and books. She was selected for inclusion in the Art Folio Book: “Curated Collection of the World’s Most Exciting Artists”, published by Glitterati Editions, New York, NY; was a Featured Artist in Emergo Art Magazine, based in The Netherlands; and Vogue UK magazine. Before pursuing her art career, Linda worked as a Digital Painter on motion pictures and commercials at Industrial Light+Magic, the special effects division of LucasFilm. ARTIST STATEMENT: I create abstract artwork that is intuitive and expressive, communicating my deepest emotions through color, movement, and form. Nature has always inspired me, and its beautiful hues and shapes often emerge in my paintings. I obtained my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1993 with a focus on printmaking. After experimenting with various mediums, I now prefer to paint with acrylics on canvas and paper. I work quickly and purposefully to bring authentic emotions to the surface, often incorporating mixed media such as collage, paint pen, oil pencil, caran d'ache, and ink.
