ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Collage art, by juxtaposing disparate elements such as newspaper clippings and magazine pages, has the capacity to generate novel meanings and subvert established norms and conventions. It offers a means of artistic expression that is both liberating and inclusive, allowing for a wide range of creative interpretations. Taro's work, much like the Dada movement of the early 20th century, represents a quest for a new artistic language. By incorporating unconventional materials, such as auction catalogs, and by adding three-dimensional elements like chains and guitar strings, Taro reveals a deep-rooted influence of music and demonstrates a fusion of tradition and innovation. In our contemporary world saturated with images and information, Taro's art offers a refreshing visual experience. Through his playful and humorous compositions, he explores profound themes, such as social and political issues, while commenting on the human condition in an age of overwhelming stimuli.

ArtFacts Instagaram Taro Yakumo grew up in an environment where both parents were working in art-related fields, and began painting in oil and other media at an art class at an early age. He did not pursue art school, but instead turned his attention to music. Although he had nothing to do with art for a while, he has experienced the changing art scene in Japan and abroad by visiting art fairs in various countries, studying abroad in Korea, and staying in the U.S. to produce artworks. He expresses himself with a new concept by incorporating motifs of things that symbolize the contemporary society we are living in right now into his works.
