Folds in geological terms are formed from stress or pressure applied to sedimentary strata. These folds are produced by the slumping of the layers at their weak point and are a phenomenon that occurs on a huge variety of scale and multitude. In this case, the choice of materials used in the synthetic reproduction of folding along a flat surface dictate the visual language that is revealed when cut through into thin section.
The work is created by applying multiple layers of an acrylic composite resin over a relief which is then sliced through to reveal the composition.
