About The Artwork

With this painting I have tried to oppose form and colour, the piercing of one form into the other with the less intrusive colour difference. One structure invading the other, a thought is like a seed that once planted into your head can never truly be erased, as the white cannot cover fully. The past will always be a part of oneself. The long pencil lines making its way through the canvas, like paths one has taken, or possibilities not taken, which bring us back to the fighting forms as they are a constant reminder of life asking us : have you done everything possible?

Timothy Barnes is a visual artist based in Hamburg, Germany, who initially worked as a photographer before transitioning to painting. He is known for his large-scale, abstract works that incorporate bold brushstrokes and dynamic compositions. His paintings are characterized by a sense of movement and energy, often featuring sweeping lines and gestural marks that evoke a sense of motion and flow. It's interesting to know that Timothy also works with paper and porcelain, creating minimalistic pieces. This shows his versatility as an artist and his willingness to explore different materials and techniques. Working with these materials can require a different approach compared to painting, as paper and porcelain have their unique qualities and limitations. When working with paper, he may use techniques such as folding, tearing and layering to create minimalist compositions that play with light and shadow. These pieces may be delicate and intricate, showcasing the precision and skill required to work with paper as a medium.
