At the beginning of his artistic career, Lepage was a photographer. During this period, he met many painters. After being in regular contact with them and watching them work, Lepage decided to express himself through the same medium. Over the years, his pictorial work has evolved, changing from figurative and narrative art to studies of the body. His transition towards abstract painting began to take shape at the end of the ‘90s. From 2000 onwards, his work became completely abstract. Today, Lepage’s artistic work is marked by his study of subjects and colours, which coincides with the themes of reflection, energy and movement. Art in motion Lepage refers to his work as “open works of art”. His canvases are signed at four different angles, suggesting that they can be observed from all sides. In this way, the artist plays with direction as well as with us. The meaning behind these paintings and their perception vary depending on the direction in which they are observed. Lepage’s abstract paintings are open to interpretation and do not intend to prove anything in particular. The painter’s work invites his audience to go on an interior journey by demonstrating that everything can seem different depending on the assumed point of view. Lepage’s work has been exhibited in France and abroad. In 2014, the artist exhibited his work at la Fondation Pous, a foundation created by Fernand Roux, a former student and friend of Henri Matisse.
