When we invite me participating in the exhibition "dolls" at the Ancient Painting Museum of Grenoble, I thought of making a series of paints from my own photos when I was a child. I then worked from pictures of me: with my dolls, then with my daughter, and with her own doll. But for each I isolated the characters and invented an abstract background which takes out them of the real world. This is the way I made this series of 4 paintings entitled 1964 – 1967 – 1998 and 1999. Acrylic on stretched canvas. Matt varnished. Vernis mat.

Marta Grassi is an Uruguayan artist living in France. Her work is imbued with the imagery of South America and the magical realism of its literature, populated by imaginary characters, most often women. These women, shamans, fairies or witches are strong and powerful and appear to us in an environment just evoked, going towards abstraction. They stare at the spectator and seem to question him. The viewer is free to interpret the intention of this gaze on him.
