1982 is part of the collection "leaving without moving", which was presented in Mexico City in the summer of 2015. In this show, I explored the different emotions a person experiences when moving from one place to another; such experiences I have been very close to throughout my entire life. 1982 expresses my inner emotions in a crucial moment of my life. 1982 also was part of the exhibition "Manhattan Borough President's Office", IN New York City, July 2015.

I was born in México City and took my first painting lessons at the Instituto Estatal de Bellas Artes (State Institute of Fine Arts), in San Luis Potosí, México. Although I have attended different fine arts institutions since then (currently enrolled at The Art Students League of New York), I consider myself a self-taught painter. Art came as a natural way of expression to me since childhood, from drawings, paintings, installations, cards, posters, illustrated love letters, to scrapbooks. Artistic expression -fundamentally through color-, offered me the chance to approach and contest, intuitively, a rather strict cultural environment with instruments that validated process, transformation and uncertainty as adequate ways of being and understanding. Given the important role that mutability and openness had in my painting from the very beginning, it’s not a surprise that abstract expression ended up being my most natural way of thinking and making art. Through the years, abstract expression (which to me goes beyond any historic movement or specific representational code) has provided me with three crucial tools that are now part of my own artistic vision: Color and light, as the initial and catalytic impulses of the artistic experience; the accidental, as the main parameter in which such experience moves; and process –paradoxically- as a state of completion in itself. Not conforming to the common idea of abstract art as a hermetic and introspective art, my painting aims for a real communication and interaction with the observer; it is this observer the one who, through an immediate aesthetic experience and without any mimetic or conceptual filters, will have the responsibility of continuing the artistic process in her/his own interpretation of the artwork.
