I have been invited to exhibit at the opening show at "Different Trains" Decatur, Atlanta, USA. This and 3 other works were selected and are currently UNAVAILABLE for sale, until June 2017. It was one of the 16 works exhibited in the "Sym” solo at the Tarpey Gallery, Castle Donington UK, hung along side the commissioned canvas. Cobalt White is available to purchase from the archive, created in 2011. Painted as a scale study on paper for a private canvas commission, for a UK collector. The painting is non-narrative abstraction made from rotation and mirroring a linear form, this works reflect on and traces of earlier work, employing the device of a symmetrical or mirrored composition. Painted with high quality Michael Harding oil paints, on heavyweight Bockingford (rough) paper. Float mounted directly on to backing board and framed in a square faced black wooden frame, hanging hardware is included. Image size 69x56cm (27x22”) Frame size 80x63cm (32x25”) One of 5 published reviews below ... “ ... Marek's emphasis on drawing permeates the paintings, leaving traces of the decision-making process underlying each paintings' construction. Serial circular arcs imitate and perfect a natural curve of an artists' reach, with gestation periods between each decision point: like a time-line, accelerating and slowing. … Sym is a painting show that fits very securely into the realm of painterly painting, and showcases Marek's work as studio-based investigation into painting process: an artist's artist. ... Marek's quiet paintings are indicative of a prevalent tendency towards honesty and beauty in painting now, away from showmanship, trickery and illusion.” Ruth Solomons artist, curator & writer based in London

English b.1964 Lives & works in Nottingham UK. Resident artist at PRIMARY Nottingham ... Recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award. "... Marek Tobolewski'’s work continues to entrance and mystify... CiS is the most impressive show of Tobolewski’s I have ever seen ... his artistic practice seems to be a never-ceasing journey along a single path, continually striving for new insights and perfections." Andrew Cooper-NVA Ed Drawing underpins my practice, it deals within both the formal process of abstraction today and its historical continuity. The ongoing Continuum series of works are concerned with spatial portals held within symmetry and reflection, of rotated and mirrored linear forms. The linear ’Syms’ are continually evolving and endlessly being reinvented … “I return to existing works, adjust structures and refine each individual flow of a line in an attempt to hold a balance between movement and stillness.”
