My work develops out of a process of material enquiry through which there is attentiveness to phenomenal occurrence. Liquids are allowed to land and mingle on the surface or to seep into the material, creating a dialogue of discovery between painter and object. Successful works have an immediacy of form, they come to be by continual opportunities for something to happen, and essentially the recognition that it has.

On a more formal engagement the work culminates out of a love for dragging a paintbrush down a surface, where by the paintings develop out of considered placing of colour or folds.

Paper is integral to the practice, the way that it can and wants to behave, and how it interacts with other substances. It's ability to take on shape when wet, to be folded and allow paint to collect at a fold, to become translucent with oil and allow light to come through.

Whilst primarily concerned with paint and surface, my work engages with painting as object and the act of making. It questions what a painting should be and how it should be seen. As a result the work asks the viewer to consider the paintings in a fundamental relationship of evolving processes and ideas, where evidence remains of the performative nature of painting and the habitation of a space.
