About The Artwork

This piece, which belongs to a large body of work totaling 1001 meters long, is ultimately about the exploration of my spiritual quest. That is to say, the investigation into a spiritual identity that encompasses all aspects of my life. This piece in particular addresses the desire to be seduced, to be desired, both physically and emotionally. The large text can be understood as an overt cry for attention, yet the distortion of the words convey how uncomfortable I am with the attention necessary to have these needs met. Ultimately, a full and complete spiritual identity is one that embraces all aspects of our humanity. This is painting number 97. The aim of the 1001 meters is to create a body of work that required a durational effort greater than possible in one sitting or even a few months. As I sit down to paint everyday, I do so knowing that the first painting and the last painting would bear the burden of documenting a process that will see (hopefully) an evolution not just artistically but also personally.
