This textural artwork is painted in a contemporary style, with a palette knife, which brings a looseness of expression and a tactile quality to this view of a copse, on the sweeping hills of the French countryside. It was inspired by journeying through France on a sunny spring day, whilst the clouds...

Grounded in figurative landscape oil painting and life drawing, Lizzie Butler's work today is expressive and semi-abstract. She often begins her landscape pieces 'en plein air', then moves to her London studio, sometimes working from photographs taken in the landscape. Butler's depth of field and linear hand convey light, silence and energy with expressive hues and tones. The results are an immersive fusion of land, water and open sky.
Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates to create intaglio prints.
Lizzie Butler has exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London and at several London galleries. She has also exhibited internationally, with oil paintings shown in Washington, USA, and her etchings exhibited in Japan.
Butler’s work can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the UK and across Europe, with customers returning to buy further pieces and place commissions.
If you have an idea you would like to discuss or a favourite sky view you would like as an artwork for your home, please get in touch. Lizzie has completed many commissions in various sizes.
