A Citron Fable Painting

In the early 1970s, my parents went on a honeymoon in Greece. I found a postcard-style booklet in their travel memorabilia. One of the images was of a beautiful woman in a traditional Greek dress. I felt she encapsulated the Meditteranean tradition and could transport the viewer to a distant time, a distant island full of citrus smells and fresh berries and herbs to distill and create tinctures. The gingham backdrop is a nod to the colour of the traditional Bombay Sapphire bottle and the design reminds me of picnics and taverna tablecloths. The gold and copper coins on the bib of the dress take their cue from the metallic copper frame on the Bombay Sapphire label and add luxury to the image. I couldn't resist adding my signature Bambi-style deers and the quintessential white cockatoo!
