ABOUT THE ARTWORK
It is believed that a crane is an immortal bird that can carry the immortals to the Heaven. It is the symbol of luck and longevity in birds school. Emperors of past ages took the pattern to decorate the high rank official's garments. Bamboo is luxuriantly plant. It is upright, unique and evergreen. The plant can stand the cold weather in winter, while other plants wither and fall. It has been entrusted with character of strength, ideal, modesty, nobility and gentleness so it becomes very attractive to scholars. I designed this painting with a crane and bamboo together by the mountain stream, drawing in ink to express people wishes for positive changes.

I was born in China and moved to Hong Kong when I was in my mid twenties. I migrated to the UK in the late 80s and moved to Australia in mid 90s until I went back to Hong Kong in 2015. Since the early 1970s, I have studied Western painting under the tutelage of the renowned Hong Kong painter Mr. Zhou Gongli (1903 – 1989) and the Lingnan calligrapher Mr. Li Wei (1927 – 2016). I am also the second-generation student of Lingnan clerical script master Wu Zifu (1899 – 1979). I have persisted in studying and researching on Chinese painting and calligraphy, as well as Western painting art, in order to better preserve and develop the intangible cultural heritage of Chinese painting and calligraphy. I initially started off portrait oil paintings and did a lot of works when I was young. In recent years, I have developed a new way of painting on Chinese paper blending western art technique with Chinese ink art.
