ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Limited Edition Giclee on ready-to-hang canvas with white or black edges (please specify when ordering). Proofed, signed and numbered by the artist, with certificate of authenticity. Painting Symbolism: There is an age-old philosophical question: do our lives follow a predetermined fate, or do we create our own destiny. I suspect that it’s some of both. That we have a general blueprint of our broader life goals, but that the details are left to chance, or made up on the fly. I imagine it being a journey that involves an improvised itinerary, but the destination or goal is determined in advance. The butterflies follow the choreographed movements of divine order and intent. While the umbrella represents the fluctuating element of spontaneous chance being carried by the winds.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, and worldwide. Corporate collections include Fox, Warner Bros and NBC Studios, Royal Caribbean International, Marriott Hotels, Scripps and Stanford Hospitals; and his works are featured in numerous contemporary art publications.
