ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A poignant moment between a couple, their backs turned, the man reaches behind him, gently holding the woman's leg in a silent offering of reassurance and connection. This subtle act conveys a message of forgiveness and the enduring bond. The background sets the emotional tone with a dark night blue enveloping the top, while below, earthy browns ground the scene, representing stability and the passage of time. Together, these colors evoke the quiet intensity of night, a fitting backdrop for the tempestuous emotions at play. The figures – intersected and fragmented into brighter hues. This fragmentation symbolizes the complexities and multifaceted nature of their relationship. Each shard of color reflects the myriad emotions and memories that bind them together. The painting captures the essence of reconciliation and the enduring power of love amidst turmoil. "A Forgiving Tempest of Yesterday" invites viewers to witness the fragile yet resilient nature of human connection, where even in the storm's aftermath, there is a gesture of hope and forgiveness.

Kato Rempel's story is one of daring choices, cultural immersion, and a lifelong commitment to capturing the world's beauty with a stroke of her brush. Her story begins in the vibrant city of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her early 20s and 30s found her in the new world of digital graphic design, a time when computers were taking over and creativity was sparking new frontiers. With fourteen years under her belt in this industry, she decided it was time for a bold move. Casting aside convention, Kato went with her family on an exhilarating journey to South East Asia, where cultures collided and colours seemed to be more vibrant. Sri Lanka became her classroom, where she dove into foreign customs, art, and architectural design. Amidst these wanderlust-filled adventures, Kato found a new passion - oil painting. With dedication and discipline, she honed her skills, turning her once-hobby into a bona fide career. Returning to her Canadian roots, she settled in Kelowna, BC. Here, her artistic journey took a deeper plunge, guided by mentors, Kristy Gordon and Jerry Markham, who shared their wisdom. Kato's artistry knew no bounds. Her works found homes in private collections across the globe. From the chilly landscapes of Canada to the sun-soaked plains of Australia, the old-world charm of England to the artistic havens of France. Venturing further into the realm of her artistic journey, Kato Rempel has embarked on an exciting new chapter in Mexico in 2023. Here, amid the vibrant hues of culture and the rhythmic beats of life, she is unfurling the canvas of her dreams - an art retreat tailored for both passionate artists and intrepid souls thirsty for adventure. She has been designated an SFCA, a Senior Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists by her peers in 2021.
