About The Artwork
This painting is part of a series called Untamed Nature. I was exploring how to make an abstract painting with a figure in it, at what point do you see the figure, our brain and eye is programmed to see the human connection, to make sense of the pattern in front of us. Using only three colours (plus black and white) for this series I was exploring the aspects of ourselves that connect and relate to 'nature' and what that means anyway in our disconnected world of today. The Maasai warrior represents the idea of living in community with strong traditions and ideals. he also represents the overlooked and downtrodden who have paved the way in our modern 'progress'. Maasai warrior - chic, daring and wildly fantastical, yet unswervingly true to their own nature and to an immanent ideal. Kenya and Tanzania. Red for protection and nourishment.
