About The Artwork

The artwork "The Question of Direction" from the series "Perspectives" shows a circular stream of figures. This stream seems to swim exclusively in the same direction. The figures move in regular paths. Depending on their position, they are surrounded by a square or a jagged environment. This minimal change of the environment, however, appears very regular. Everything runs in regular paths. All people act in the same way, have the same opinion, work towards the same goal, ... This behavior assumes a constant direction. Depending on the view, it is a utopia or dystopia, which cannot continuously correspond to reality. But momentarily there are also these constellations continuously. People get together, they form a group with a community-building goal or characteristics. Within this group, everyone takes the same direction. When people form a group, a family, or even a business, they all try to swim in the same direction. Despite their individuality, they find something that connects them and holds them together despite the constant movement of everyday life. It is not natural, but requires work and effort. The signature of the artist Veronika Spleiss can be found behind the stretcher and on the back of the frame.

Veronika Spleiss (born 1993) is a painter of hidden object canvases with their own philosophical stories. "The viewer seems to get lost in the overabundance of details in her paintings, which are located somewhere between comic and Kandinsky", as Jürgen Moises of the Süddeutsche Zeitung writes. The artist often uses abstract and geometric forms. Her painting palette resembles a rush of colour tones full of expressiveness, which in turn seem reduced within a work of art. With the colour and form described, her artworks show a confusion that makes us aware of the tension and diversity of life between order and chaos. Philosophically, the painter tries to take a look at all perspectives of everyday life. Veronika Spleiss is represented by renowned art galleries such as Galerie Klose, Grüne Zitadelle, singulart, and justBEE. Her "Wimmelbilder" can be found in private collections all over the world: in Japan, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the USA.
