About The Artwork
This watercolor was inspired by a four month-long visit to Ireland and to the Scandinavian countries. It is yet another attempt to suggest Death and Rebirth without resorting to the use of religious symbols. The birch trees come from a sketch in Finland. I found the image of the ruins in some photograph, but I don’t remember where or when. This image is also available as an archival (archival inks and paper digital print.

I paint oils and watercolors in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Northern California. The images in my paintings come from two worlds: Daylight—the life we experience when we are awake, and Nightlight—the lives we live when we are asleep. What I try to paint cannot be seen, so distinguishing between the two worlds is a matter of only minor importance.
