ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting forms part of my sky series. I wanted to impress the subtlety of light and the immense flatness of my local landscape of La Pampa. My intention was to capture the essence of the light just before dusk, that seems to flicker like the light of a projector behind film, while keeping the brushstrokes as free and as bold as possible. The base layer is painted in acrylic and the clouds and foreground painted in oil so that the sense of depth is maximised.

Simon Boyd
Argentina
Simon Boyd, born in London 1978, studied Fine Art at Middlesex, 1997-2001. He has lived in Argentina since 2007. Simon has held solo shows in both Argentina and the UK; ‘The Jousters Banquet’ at the British Arts Centre, Buenos Aires, in 2009 and ‘Also Light…’ at Anteros Arts Foundation, Norwich, 2023 to name a few. He has also participated in the International Contemporary Art Biennial, Buenos Aires, in 2016. A key inspiration for the colour and depth of his work is the South American landscape of La Pampa. Simon's use of palette echoes the sense of vitality and purity the landscape there evokes.
