ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is one of a series I painted that are somewhat inspired by graffiti. I love the rambling interwoven images and playfulness of this piece.

BIO: Jeff Giese is a native of Minnesota, but has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area most of his life. He is currently based in Alameda, California. He has been making art since he was quite young. Interest and inspiration came from older siblings and playmates, along with an early visit to a Richard Diebenkorn exhibit at the M.H. De Young Museum, in 1963. He works in acrylics on canvas (mostly). STATEMENT: Simply stated, I have been making art since I was very young. It has been one of the great joys of my life. Not the only joy, but a consistent one. I'm not competitive about it. I'm not saying that my work is the best work ever, or better than that of others. But it is my best work, for me. I'm more interested in the art world than the art industry. My artwork is abstract, morphing recently from geometric to more free form. I take my inspiration from any source I happen to find, usually unexpectedly, sometimes from nature, sometimes from architecture, machinery, even graffiti. My process is usually to start by referencing past works and expanding on and refining previous concepts and techniques. I tend to use primary colors and/or colors straight out of the tubes. The intent of my work is to convey an idea, feeling, or mood without rigid definition, leaving the viewer to have their own reaction or interpretation. And I'm always intrigued to hear the interpretations of others. Please look at my work. Try it on. Take it for a spin. I'm very interested in your take on it. I'll be very pleased if it strikes a chord with you.
