Hello—my name is Marta; I'm a Polish-American, NH Seacoast-based fine artist on a journey to find the perfect Blue. When I'm not painting, I read Emily Dickinson and brew hibiscus tea. → See my videos: https://www.youtube.com/MartaSpendowska Since '07, I've worked with many art collectors, consultants, brands, and interior designers such as Oprah, Kotex, Better Homes & Gardens, Oreo, and many more. My art is featured in many hotels, residencies, and private collections. As an artist, I am at the mercy of beauty and spirituality, which I recognize as twin sisters. They are the most potent influences and have become the biggest motivators in my daily life—like my morning coffee—they trigger my energy and allow it to flow freely. I choose to work with specific water-based materials: watercolor, acrylic paint, or ink. Watercolor is my preferred medium because it is immediately responsive; it reminds me that life does not allow for "do-overs." The only sure thing is here, now. The fluidity of my materials enables me to be spontaneous, with no plan or obligation other than to react to what is happening with this paper, that brush, this moment. This intuitive painting process helps me delve into intangible, hidden, heartfelt places—something akin to painting as prayer. I let the paint leak, gather, and pool until imagery emerges—a mountain, cave, or flower's bloom. The movement between the paint and me, hovering, is like dancing with the ghosts of every person and each thing that has ever mattered to me. When I paint, I gather and channel all my amulets into my art. What I feel in my heart becomes visible and tangible.
