Born in 1954. The artist lives in Ardèche, France. Maryse Curinier-Rochette creates works that combine figurative rigor with the freedom of abstraction. Based in Ardèche, she draws on the landscapes of her immediate environment and the study of portraiture to achieve a form of technical stability. Her oil painting technique, characterized by thick brushstrokes and attention to values, allows her to structure a calm and balanced vision of the world. This search for proportions and details finds its necessary counterpoint in spontaneous abstract expression. For the artist, abstraction becomes a vital breath when she feels the need to free herself from formal constraints in order to rediscover the pure pleasure of the brushstroke. She then explores letting go, using acrylic or oil to convey more immediate and existential emotions. Maryse Curinier-Rochette's career, nourished by her training in visual arts and psychology, explains this constant back-and-forth between control and intuition. Her paintings thus bear witness to a quest for accuracy, oscillating between a celebration of the wild nature of the Ardèche region and an inner exploration freed from all figuration.
