Abstract Scene CYM Painting

Inspired by Gerhard Richter's style with a twist. Executed through curosity. The colors used for this piece were cyan, yellow, magenta, black and white. The process began as a study of textures, colors and their mix behavior that led to a discovery and understanding of the effects of larger scale abstract art in small spaces. This piece is part of a collection that I have created while spending my summer 2016 in New York. During that time I exclusively painted on reclaimed wood that I had collected off the streets, cleaned and prepped to use as a canvas. My intention was to have the freedom and opportunity to paint as big as possible without being constrained by having to purchase or build canvases myself. This also gave me the wonderful opportunity to work with the structure the wood naturally creates, enhancing the effects of the abstract expressionist style of the paintings that are part of this collection. The series is heavily inspired by Gerhard Richter's technique, amongst others.
