Across from the Castle Painting

This painting is in 2 parts: Left hand is 47 x 59 inches; Right hand is 47 x 39 inches. The 2 sections can hang together or with a small gap between or on separate walls. I was inspired by the view from Trematon Castle which is in Cornwall. It is a Norman castle and looks out on the Lynher River (a tributary of the Tamar) near Plymouth boats can be seen sailing by. The Viaduct in the painting carries main line trains down to Penzance. I wanted to express the view from the castle but also the excitement of the horizontal nature of the view and I used vibrant colours inspired strangely by the oranges and pinks which I saw in Burma last year. I love the texture and surface of oil paint which gives a sensuous feel to the picture. I think the right-hand canvas gives a dynamic exciting feel to the subject.
