Jeannette Debonne is a native of the Southern California desert. She took her formal training at UCLA where she graduated as a painting major, having studied under William Brice, John Paul Jones and Jan Stussy. Debonne’s large brilliantly colored abstract paintings reflect a long and carefully studied evolution. Her early paintings employed the academic disciplines acquired during the university years, especially an insistence on classical drawing, and invariably using the human figure as a point of departure. Over a 40-year career, her images began to fracture and eventually evolve into the abstract imagery that has become the hallmark of her paintings. Heavily textured surfaces and an overlay of gestural drawing define her work. Debonne’s paintings have been widely exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and Western Europe and are represented in many corporate and private collections. She was the first-prize winner in “Whaletail”, an international competition, and is included in “Who’s Who in American Art”.
