ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is a bright and colorful abstract painting. Initially I was drawn to paintings from the magical period between New York Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Jim Dine and Cy Twombly. In the Eighties, it was New York neo-Expressionists such as Julian Schnabel, Terry Winters and Donald Baechler. As you can see, in the past few years my paintings have become more formal, but you can still see a lot of the hand in them.

I have been selling my art worldwide since around 1990. For eight years I had a gallery on Magazine Street in New Orleans; I sold it in 2019 and moved everything online - which is where things seemed to be headed. My paintings are in fine collections from Beirut, to London, to mansions in Aspen and the California wine country. But it's important to me that the prices not rise to where they are unaffordable for collectors who are not wealthy; so I try to keep them reasonable. My influences include Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg, Julian Schnabel and Sean Scully. I have never been interested in the forms I choose for my paintings. I make quick decisions about them. What matters to me is surface quality, color, line quality, negative space. Sometimes the negative space is more important than the forms that push forward.
