About The Artwork

The painting is homage to two magnolia trees which used to be the first blooming trees in my neighborhood and were cut down recently. They were a reason I started All Things Grow Series two years ago. The movement the spectator can sense looking at the painting is in my opinion important mediator of feelings, message and transformation of the impact exchanged between the painting and the viewer. I have chosen the acrylic paint which enables me to paint very fast and to let go of control.

Anamari Hrup is the art and program manager of the interdisciplinary project Abandoned Plants Sanctuary. Together with Eva Jera Hanžek, she has been leading the project and creating workshops, events, exhibitions, and domestic and international collaborations in the Green Refuge mobile greenhouse at Krater creative laboratory in the Bezigrad district of Ljubljana. Her body of work covers the field of painting, drawing, and illustration, combining ecological guidelines and themes, which are already implemented in the project Abandoned Plants Sanctuary. In her works, she develops and upgrades them into a whole, in the mediums of paintings, drawings, and illustration. In her personal work, through an intimate and personal relationship with the above media, she explores the field between individual and collective, between formal techniques and informal approaches. In her work, she subtly incorporates current social events, the center of which is her attitude towards nature, sustainable way of living, and the position of the individual in current socio-ecological circumstances.
