We all have a masculine and a feminine side. Alterego interprets these two sides in a pop contemporary key. Forming the collective imagery, the masculine stands in front of the feminine; the male, holding an ice cream, is interpreted with a pattern of bananas while the female wears a pattern of rainbows which represents a woman’s ability to receive.

GIULIA is influenced by her great love for Ibiza. Her female portraits, with their ‘Giuliaesque’ use of colour patterns and natural elements, depict the subjects’ inherent experiences. She takes inspiration from multiculturalism, the emotional states of her protagonists, and the island’s organic elements; these often include seasonal fruits, trees, and insects. She draws particular inspiration from her background in fashion editorials; mixed media, including paper, markers, watercolour and gold leaf, are all explored in the production of her work. About GIULIA Born into an Italian family, GIULIA spent the first two years of her life in the African Sahara. Her father’s career then took the family to South Africa where they went on to spend four blissful years. These incredible experiences helped shape her personality and installed in her the curiosity to travel and discover the world and its many cultures. At the age of seven, GIULIA moved back to Pavia, in northern Italy – a charming, historically rich city near Milan. Growing up she was a rebellious teenager, passionate about culture, philosophy, fashion, and the world of art. She studied fashion styling at Milan’s renowned Istituto Marangoni which nurtured her love of The Arts. She then decided to move to London to further nurture her creativity, later graduating from the London College of Communication with a BA in Media and Cultural Studies. Since graduating, she has travelled the world, has worked in the film industry in Paris on an independent film as well as being an art teacher in Pavia for five years. However, the island of Ibiza had been calling to her for many years, and she felt she had to go and do something important there. In January 2010, she made the leap to leave her job, bought a campervan and moved over with her husband and children. This was the moment when all of her creativity was unleashed and the direction in which to take her work became clear. As a creative, she is compelled to give a voice to the feminine energy in Ibiza. Working with patterns and inspired by textiles, the women in her portraits embody all her previous experiences. GIULIA’s signature colour palette is a reflection of the hues of the island. Her work is divided between productions for galleries and portraits commissioned by private clients. Her study and interpretation of the people she portrays makes each work unique and tailored.
