My art seeks to share the beauty of nature using bold and bright colors. Being a female, my love for freedom and beauty has further inspired me to share my thoughts with the world through art. My inspirations from nature are butterflies, birds and flowers as they reflect the beauty along with the freedom to inspire. I strongly feel that women are butterflies sometimes and they become birds sometimes. They are like flowers with immense delicacy and charm. We always desire to fly high like a bird. My style is basically a mix of realistic and semi abstraction where I reflect the freedom of throwing and splashing the colors here and there. I do my background with textures and paints and then bring the forms on top of it. Looking at my work puts the viewer inside the journey of thought to freedom of expression. The freedom to fly high and high.

My name is Smita Sonthalia. I am a contemporary artist practising art for 18 years. I live in the UK and work from my studio in North London. Born in India, and growing up in a vibrant and diverse culture, I pursued masters in Fine Arts. I draw inspiration from nature, spiritualism and women. My paintings have been exhibited at many solo and group exhibitions and art fairs in Singapore, India & UK. Painting is love, work, play, meditation and prayer for me! Most of my paintings are mixed media and acrylic on canvas though I have done several oil-on-canvas as well creating a variety of paintings - figurative, floral, folk and abstract. I experiment with textures, layers, inks, lines, patterns in my work to create something unique.
