A trigger warning should precede these protest paintings as the depiction of Klan members is a painful reminder of America's dark and violent history. The artist does not intend to offend people of color or anyone victimized by the Klan or other white supremacists groups.
The paintings are prompted out of alarm, disgust and dread that these hate driven groups are once are again ascending. At the protests in Charlottesville a 32 year old woman Heather Heyer was killed by a white nationalist for standing up justice. Trump showed his allegiance to bigotry and systemic racism by responding "Both sides are at fault." Shortly after this the artist heard Lynrd Skynrd's redneck anthem Sweet Home Alabama in a grocery store the lyrics are anthem for southern regressive march away from social progress and toward chauvinism and oppression. Thus spawned the idea that the so called American Dream at the dark heart of the "Make American Great Again" was in fact "Make racism acceptable again".

This is someone wearing their ideology, masking their identity while revealing who they really are.
