Engaging, vibrant original still life oil painting on canvas. This expressive, contemporary still life celebrates the artistry of form one afternoon as I engaged with nature and a collection of common objects. In this painting, a dynamic arrangement of wild flowers burst from a white pitcher drawing on the beauty of color. Each flower comes to the canvas with expressed confidence through their sprightly petals and bold jewel like hues. There's a feeling of purpose to their presence. A delightful sense of light casts it's artistry on the white pitcher creating a strong angular pattern on the surface revealing passionate red undertones that can't be ignored. Outlined reflections of all kinds surround the compelling arrangement in beautiful geometric shapes infused with tender muted grays and surprising passes of lime green and royal violet. Creating this still life was an experience of "afternoon delight". It's a piece filled with sentiment, love and pure joy that can be found in the "art" of living. It was created on a gallery wrapped canvas that is signed. The sides of the canvas are finished so the painting can be hung with or without a frame. Thank you for looking!

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
