Deb Slowey Resume EDUCATION Debbie began painting at age 17 and was apprenticed to Tom Bostelle for two years before completing the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts 4 yr program. She traveled throughout the USA to most Art Museums on her railroad pass from her father’s railroad job. She completed the Barnes Foundation 2 year course and after formal schooling she lived in Manhattan’s Chelsea district. She attended multitudes of educational symposiums and Art Classes at the Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, National Academy & the National Arts Club and Art Students League. Debbie became an Outlier and moved to Florida where she took another degree ASN, RN, for a steady income to balance art selling. STYLE Debbie works in oil painting but also has a practice in printmaking etching and silkscreen. She has done environmental site specific projects as well. Her style has been an exploration of the many disciplines in painting including expressionism, abstraction, color field and a realism. Debbie has always maintained a studio and now enjoys the largest space she has ever had affording the ability to paint canvases large enough to fill a need she states as the Grand Narrative. Favorite subject matter includes Mythology- historical or imagined; Animals and people interacting; landscape, still life and decorative expressions. All Slowey Raguso paintings are done with highest archival materials and embellished collaged on surfaces are also archival. FAMILY Debbie and her husband Richard Raguso DC are a happily married couple of 5 years and live in Florida on a mini farm estate with their 10 Chickens and 20 yr Koy goldfish. Debbie pursued an art career throughout her young adulthood which she believed would conflict with raising children well and did not have children. She is loved by family that is extended into a 2nd family who were/are artists or involved in the art world in NYC. She has many nieces and nephews and a wonderful stepson.
