The majority of my paintings are created with oil paints; however, I work with acrylic paints occasionally. After gathering the subject matter of the painting, I begin by drawing the images on canvas. The first coat of oils will show the composition and values for the final painting using a monochromatic color scheme or full color values. While the painting is drying, I will begin another painting. When the painting is dry to the touch, other layers are applied using a medium to enhance the flow of the paint and to build up the desired luminosity of the painting. A soft sable brush is used to blur the edges of the background objects which creates an illusion of less depth of field to emphasize the main subject. After drying, the painting is varnished to ensure protection and easy cleaning.
